After having worked as the Bilingual English Language assistant at Maestro Diego Llorente, Los Palacios, Sevilla, for the past two years, I can say that I will be forever grateful for the experience and everything that it has taught me. This program has allowed me to have a first hand experience of what the Spanish education system is like, and morever, it sparked my interest and love for being a teacher.
At the high school I have always been warmly welcomed from the very first day, which was one of the main reasons I chose to renew for a second year in the same school. My coordinator helped me understand the world of bilingual education and ensured my smooth transition into the classes with the students. All my bilingual work mates helped me whenever I needed their support in classes, and with time I managed to adjust to the teaching style and work environment.
When I first moved to Spain, and started work at the school, I spoke a very basic level of Spanish that I had learnt beforehand, however, interacting with my co-workers and others at the school, I have managed to increase my level of Spanish as well as my knowledge about Spanish culture and life.
I have loved helping the children learn English and support them with resources and materials in their bilingual subjects. It has also been a very enjoyable experience being able to tell them about my country and the culture I grew up with.
My experience at the high school has been amazing and I will always remember it, since it has been what helped me realize my passion for being a teacher and helping children learn. The school will always hold a special place in my heart along with all the co-workers and staff that made each day an unforgettable adventure.
